Healthcare Chaplaincy Requirements
Hospitals
•A Master of Divinity degree or the equivalent (72 hours) from an American Theological School or seminary or school of theology. •Credentialed by the ICOF or a recognized national organization. •Two years of pastoral ministry with experience in conducting: baptisms, communion services, weddings, funerals, and death notifications. •Willingness to provide and coordinate programs for individuals of all faiths. •Pass the physical examination required by the hiring institution. •Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) four units/1600 hours, accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. •Receive favorable National background check. •Make an application to the ICOF Chaplaincy Department for Ecclesiastical Endorsement. •Successful interview with the ICOF Chaplaincy Commission
Hospice
•A bachelor's degree from an American Theological School or seminary or school of theology. •Credentialed with the ICOF or a recognized national organization. •Two years of ministry with experience in conducting: baptisms, communion services, weddings, funerals, and death notifications. •Willingness to provide spiritual support for individuals of all faiths. •Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) one unit/400 hours, accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. •Receive favorable National background check. •Make an application to the ICOF Chaplaincy Department for Ecclesiastical Endorsement. •Successful interview with the ICOF Chaplaincy Commission
Nursing Home
The International Circle Faith Chaplaincy recognizes that there are no universal qualifications for nursing home chaplains, therefore, the ICOFC requires that applicants for endorsement meet the qualifications of the hiring institutions. Within the professional field, the following qualifications are desired for nursing home chaplains: •A bachelor's degree. •Credentialed by the ICOF or a recognized national organization. •Two years of ministry with experience in conducting: baptisms, communion services, funerals, and death notifications. •Willingness to provide spiritual support for individuals of all faiths. •Receive favorable National background check. •Make an application to the ICOF Chaplaincy Department for Ecclesiastical Endorsement. •Successful interview with the ICOF Chaplaincy Commission
